What is IVDD? Intervertebral disc disease is a spinal condition common in long-backed, short-legged breeds like dachshunds. The cushioning discs between vertebrae can bulge or rupture, which may cause back pain, wobbliness, or in serious cases loss of mobility. It's largely a matter of managing everyday physical stress on the spine — the checklist below covers the biggest everyday factors.

Uses stairs regularly, with no ramp or carry-assist Occasional stairs are usually fine — it's the daily, repeated climbing that adds up over time.
